With something almost Northern Europe in the air, but exuding Italian style, Milan is the most cosmopolitan city in Italy. Located in the flat plains of the Po valley, the capital of Lombardy is hardworking and glamorous, powerful in business, from finance to fashion and, of course, football.

But what gives Milan something true is its status as the epicenter of Italian fashion and interior design. Fashionistas, designers, supermodels and international paparazzi descend upon the city twice a year for their spring and autumn fairs. Valentino, Versace and Armani can design and manufacture their clothing in other places, but Milan, which has carefully cared for its reputation for style, drama and creativity, is the natural setting of Italy. This is certainly one of the best places in Italy to buy, or Windows.

Aside from fashion, many large national banks and companies are based here, while the automobile, the media,
Telecommunications and Internet sectors have a significant presence as well. Milan is the main industrial, commercial and financial center of Italy and, as such, is surprisingly business in appearance.

In fact, despite their fashion credentials, the city is not as visually pleasing as Rome, Venice or Florence. At first sight, it lacks the surprise factor; Many buildings are gray, some are quite aggressive and there seems to be very little green space even though there are many parks in the city. Visitors have to take time and be determined to explore the streets of Milan in order to access their aesthetically attractive gems – and they exist. Cut through the modern metropolitan hustle and bustle with impressive churches and palaces, the beautiful Navigli area, the chic Brera neighborhood and the bustling university district.

Among the most notable monuments are the Duomo, a gothic masterpiece (one of the largest of its kind in the world) that seems vaguely menacing when lit at night; La Scala, the opera with an illustrious history and reputation; Castello Sforzesco, a large medieval castle; Galleria Vittorio Emanuele, an old and glamorous gallery of shops with arcades and in a nod to art, the city is impressive home to the fifteenth century masterpiece of Leonardo da Vinci The Last Supper.

However, things are about to change – and very drastically. In an attempt to beautify the city, the old industrial zones have been marked by large plans for urban renewal. The Citylife project in the old Fiera area will create a new residential neighborhood, a park, a museum of contemporary art and a trio of futuristic skyscrapers (one of which will have an ambitious design) which is expected to be completed by 2015. Milan Year Hosts the Expo.

Apart from these new attributes, Milan can not be criticized when it comes to having a good time. The Milanese know how to have fun and do not waste time to start. Nightlife tends to start at 6 pm; Enjoying an aperitif in which the locals relax with post-work drinks and snacks before returning home is the rule rather than exception.

So if you are looking for fashion cut price, an alternative city break or the opportunity to paint the red city, Milan has undoubtedly covered.
